So if 'Campaigning is OK !!', so why are 'Disabled Peoples' Organisations (DPOs') and 'Our' movements 'voices' totally excluded and disempowered from within this process of 'self-advocacy'?

The Co-Dependent Professional(s)....

Posted by colrevs in Untagged

.....Many people do not realize that co-dependency is an addictive process -- a disease just like any other addiction. Co-dependency can be described as a dysfunctional pattern of living in which one overreacts to things going on outside of oneself and under reacts to what is going on inside. It involves compulsive behaviors and dependence upon approval from others in order to achieve a sense of safety, identity and self-esteem. Co-dependents put all their efforts into those around them, neglecting to fully take care of themselves, especially emotionally. Co-dependency is a disease that, if left untreated, can lead to other addictions such as eating disorders, substance dependence, workaholism and compulsive spending.....

...... The Co-Dependent Professional
Before I conclude, I would like to discuss the challenges of professional co-dependency.
Many professionals exhibit co-dependent characteristics at one time or another; often this is part of the profession itself. We are expected to put our own issues aside in order to best serve the needs of our clients. We are taught to maintain control within therapy sessions and create a safe environment for our clients to express their feelings. The basic role of the therapist is to "help" our clients in some way.

Often one becomes a professional in this field because of being raised in some sort of dysfunction and chaos. Having grown up a co-dependent, working in this field seems only natural. Professionals need to be aware of acting out the disease of co-dependency to their clients. We need to be aware of what is going on inside ourselves. The disease becomes active when we begin feeling the pride, shame and doubt that we see in our un-recovering clients. It is all too easy for a co-dependent therapist to begin taking pride in the power of therapy and trying to control the client's behavior. The therapist should be aware of the feeling that he or she can manipulate the clients into becoming healthy. Also, the therapist should not take all the credit for clients' successes.

Shame creeps in when the therapist begins to feel that he or she can truly control the client's behavior. When things do not go right, the therapist feels personal blame. The therapist's sense of well-being becomes directly proportional to the success of the clients, and the disease of co-dependency becomes active once again.
All therapists want to see their clients succeed, but occasionally can doubt their own professional competency. When this crosses over into doubt of oneself as a person, the disease is activated. Every therapist makes a judgement call once in a while, then reflects on whether the right decision was made. If this becomes a habitual practice, one is back in the disease process. It is important for professionals to acknowledge that we must take care of ourselves first, before we can best serve our clients.

For those who are co-dependent, active participation in a 12-step program is essential. Also look at other options for a healthy well-being, such as meditation, relaxation techniques and utilizing a support network, in order not to become co-dependent as a result of our profession. We must be continuously aware of ourselves and take care of ourselves, in order to care for our clients in a manner that is healthy not only for them, but for us as well.

Characteristics of 'Codependent Professionals'‏

'‏Characteristics of 'Codependent Professionals'

The characteristics of 'codependent professionals' vary for each individual and the codependent relationship they are caught up in but certain characteristics seem to occur more frequently than others. The defining characteristic of codependency is the need to be defined by a relationship with another person (their client(s). The feeling that in order to be worthwhile you must be needed by another person is extremely dangerous when the other person is involved in drugs or alcohol. Addicts and alcoholics tend to be a cyclone of destruction with problems and drama surrounding them at all times. Codependent people will feed off of their constant dependence on others and a strong dysfunctional relationship is formed.

The addict or alcoholic will have growing problems involving the family, work, health difficulties and financial issues. The characteristics of codependency are such that a 'co-dependent professional(s)' will continue to come to the "rescue" of the alcoholic or 'addict' in order to save them. This professional relationship is (self) destructive in that goes beyond 'care' giving into enabling 'clients' to continue on their (self) destructive path.

Behaviour patterns (self-destructive) usually center on controlling behaviors and agreement behaviors.

Codependent Professional(s) will attempt to control their 'client' by believing that they are responsible for their sick loved one and believe that they are unable to take care of themselves. Inclusive/Independent living is discouraged and the 'co-dependent professional(s) do not want to 'empower' their clients to enable them to grow into 'inter-dependent' clients.

Feelings of worthiness only come when 'helping' the 'client' out of yet another 'crisis' and 'co-dependent professional' are unable to let the their 'clients' deal with the consequences head on with the appropriate inclusive 'interdependency' support and aids, equipment and assistive technology/software.

'Codependent Professionals' do not want to empower their 'clients', because their is a 'professional co-dependency' relationship at 'financial levels' too, which is rife within 'human resources' workforce within health and social care.

A form of financial codependency seems to be prevalent within professional human resouce workforces which the UK taxpayer in the enabler and those who were involved in the self-destructive 'professional codependency behaviors are given a chance to do it again.

Maybe we need a twelve step program for those 'codependent professionals'.

Agreement behavior patterns are often described as people-pleasing behaviors in which being overly sensitive to another's feelings violates your own sense of right and wrong.

If you compromise yourself and find yourself as a 'professional' trying to control others or avoiding rejection at any cost you are probably in a codependent  self-destructive relationship with your 'client'.

RE: Common Purpose - Colin's post(s)‏From: Colin REvell (colrev@hotmail.co.uk) Sent:22 November 2009 12:51:03To: alice@futureinclusion.com; disability-research@jiscmail.ac.uk
Alice Thanks for getting back to me. I was totally shocked and caused great anxiety is hearing the allegations made by Brian Gerrish and others, including a MEP, so I had to report this to the Police and others to enable full investigations to be carried out without any interferences, especially when 'abuse', include 'child abuse' is be alleged about 'common-purpose'.
As I said I was only sent the information about 'common-purpose' and I had to respond immediately and start to ask questions, especially whn abuse is be mentioned. As you can see I have contacted Shami Chakrabarti and Lee Rodwell, at Liberty and contacted and reported 'common purpose' to Humberside Police, Rachel Hurst (DAA), Stehen Brookes MBE, National Disability Hate Crimes Co-ordinator, Disability Lib, RADAR and EHRC and many others and I've sent them all the evidence. My DPO (NeuroDiversity International) work as a Disabled Peoples' Organisation (DPO) human rights and civil liberties abuse, disability discrimination and disability hate crimes monitoring, educators and research 'with' the UN Disability Convention and numerous DPOs' and allies in the UK and across the globe.
I feel that I had a personal and professional moral and ethical duty to report and bring this information and abuse allegations to everyone, especially as I for one was very very scared when I received this information about 'common-purpose'.
I do hope you are right about 'common purpose' and something evil and sinister is not going on which is put all disabled people and others are risk of abuse, but the evidence about 'commn-purpodse' is out-there on the net for everyone to see and it is very convincing indeed, even being presented by MEP's and others.
So what is their 'hidden agenda' then?

As Humberside Police have informed me this morning I should let all the UN Disability Convention ( through Rachel Hurst/DisLiB), Shami Chakrabarti and Lee Rodwell, Liberty and other DPOs' and allies and Humberside Police now gather all the information about these abuse and 'hate-crimes' allegations being made openly about 'common purpose'. I have sent all of them this information I was sent and also what is open for everyone to access on the net and now I let them carry out their own investigations which I have reported now so we all need to let due process take its cause. Yours, Colin Revell, CEO NeuroDiversity International... See copy Alice's email included below...

‏From: The Disability-Research Discussion List (disability-research@jiscmail.ac.uk) on behalf of Alice Maynard (alice@FUTUREINCLUSION.COM) Sent: 22 November 2009 11:54:57 To: DISABILITY-RESEARCH@JISCMAIL.AC.UK
Well, this was good for a laugh once I'd finished choking on my coffee. Common Purpose is not a secret organisation, any more than UKDPC is. It has a very public website (http://www.commonpurpose.org.uk/home.aspx) and its goal is not world domination, but greater participation in civic life, rather than apathy. Granted, it's about as good at diversity (especially reasonable adjustments) as many other organisations (including many in the disabled people's movement) but I would just encourage disabled people to join in and change that rather than criticise from the sidelines.
Or perhaps we'd rather our society continues to crumble with fewer and fewer people participating or seeking to change the status quo?I do hope list members look at all sides, rather than taking Brian Gerrish's views at face value.

But then, I'm a member of this sinister organisation, as a 'graduate' of Common Purpose, so evidently I'm already part of the conspiracy..............
