During the development of this website, Disability Lib undertook some research into the accessibility issues facing our users online.  Many users from across the community took part and we thank you all for your help and insight. We have therefore based the accessibility options on this website on the key findings from the report summary.

Changing background colour

We have designed this website with 4 different options for changing the background colour of the web page. To change background colour, simply click on the icon at the top of the page.

 

Changing text size

This website has been designed so that you can change the text size within your browser to a size that suits you. Alternatively, you can use the settings on your screen reader to find the optimum size.

  • In newer browsers, hold down the CTRL/Apple key and press + and - to make text bigger or smaller.
  • In older browsers, go to View then Text Size and select your preferred size.

 

Easy Read and BSL

During the accessibility research undertaken for the website, many users commented that existing resources for both Easy Read and BSL were of limited use. Standards Compliance

Most pages on this site are WCAG AAA approved, complying wih all priority 1, 2, and 3 guidelines of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. Some parts of this website use new web technologies (like Google Maps and social networking, for example). They will not be fully accessible to all users, so we have made accessible alternatives to these features.

  • Most pages on this site are also Section 508 approved, complying with Section 508 Guidelines.
  • Most pages on this site validate as XHTML 1.0 Strict.
  • All pages on this site use structured semantic markup.
  • We have worked hard to ensure that all components and modules used on this website do so with Javascript disabled, with the current exception of the blog.
