D.Vercity European Disability Arts and Culture Festival

Disability LIB @ Preston Disc

This festival, the first of its kind in Lancashire, will take place in Preston and Lancaster from 24 August until 6 September 2009. It will be linked with an arts organisation in Italy that is contributing the festival graphics, also bringing to the event some of the artists and art featured.

Events will include:

• 'Disability arts as the cultural arm of the disability movement',
  Stephen Hodgkins, Disability LIB - Lancaster University on 24 August
• The Media Factory, UCLAN, Preston on 25 August
• Motion disabled installation by Dr Paul Darke at PRI in Preston
  Friday from 28 August to the festival conclusion
• A talk with Dr Paul Darke (Producer) and Simon McKeon (Artist) on
  Friday 4 September
• D.VerCity film festival at The Dukes Theatre, Lancaster and Mitchell
  Kenyon Cinema, Preston - special events in Lancaster include the film 'Kung
  Fu Flid' and a question and answer session with Mat Frazer and Xavier Leret
  on Friday 4 September at 7.30; and 'Freaks' with introductory seminar by Dr
  Paul Darke on Saturday 5 September
• TAKE: a dance in the park with Blue Eyed Soul, an amazing troupe of
  flying dance performers with try out sessions for the audience in Williamson
  Park on Monday 31 August in Lancaster and in a park (to be announced) in
  Preston
• Spastic Fantastic with comedian Laurence Clark (including BSL
  interpreters) on Friday 4 September at the Media Factory, Preston and on
  Sunday 6 September at the Dukes in Lancaster
• There will also be a seminar entitled 'Disability Culture, Identity
  and Imagery' with Dr Paul Darke at the Media Factory in Preston
• Also included will be a number of community workshops on visual
  arts, comedy and African percussion
